About a month ago, Wayne and Clayton from Australia booked a trip with me after learning about Lang’s Fishing Adventures through Google searches and reviews on Trip Advisor. All my past trips are truly special in its own way but hearing from individuals in different countries such as Australia provides me with an extra boost of excitement. Besides the rain, I love having opportunities to show off what British Columbia and its wildlife has to offer.
My trip with David and Clayton took place on April 21s, 2015. During our initial interaction, Clayton had mentioned that he has always watched YouTube videos of people catching beautiful sturgeon and always dreamt that one day he could actually experience it as well. It was my goal to make his dream come true. Within 10 minutes of our trip, we had our first fish! Although the fish was only 4 feet long, it was a great warm up for what the rest of the day had to offer. We continuously hooked on to sturgeon that were 3 to 5 feet long in that particular fishing spot. However, I was not satisfied with those sizes. I decided to move to another area where I have caught trophy sturgeons in the past. Within 5 minutes, David hooked on to what seemed to be a very large fish. I could not believe it, I shouted with excitement “OMG that’s bottom or a HUGE fish”. After several minutes of fighting this sturgeon as it travelled up the powerful currents of the Fraser River, it managed to elude us. Although we missed this opportunity, the day was still an overall success. David and Clayton landed a total of 19 beautiful sturgeons with the biggest size being 6’5 feet.
On the very next day, I had the opportunity to take out two guys from Kentucky that were also acquaintances of Clayton and David. They heard about our previous successful fishing trip and had high expectations for their own trip. In fact, they wanted to out-fish the Australians by catching a larger sturgeon. It was added pressure on me but I love challenges! Although I was determined, our fishing trip started off very slowly, we only had 2 bites in the first 2 hours of fishing… However, I did not give up! After tide directions, weather changes and moving to different fishing spots we finally had some luck. It wasn’t long until we started to continuously catch fish throughout the day. In total we were able to land 18 sturgeons. In addition, the Kentucky boys were able to get the biggest fish of the two days, which was 7’1 feet long!
These consistent successful fishing trips are a great sign of what the summer has to offer. I cannot wait to take more clients out in search for that trophy sturgeon! Book your trip soon before the summer months fill up. I would like to thank David, Clayton, Jon and Jerry for sharing this experience with me!
